Is Virat Kohli’s possessiveness driving Anushka Sharma away from him?

Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli

Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli

Close sources to the cricketer tell BollywoodLife that all’s not well between Anushka Sharma and her beau Virat Kohli. The actress who is currently busy with Imtiaz Ali film opposite Shah Rukh Khan also has Ae Dil Hai Mushkil up for release this Diwali. We hear that it’s not just the actress’ buy schedule, but also her beau Virat’s possessiveness that driving Anushka away from the cricketer. Recently rumours were abuzz that Anushka and Virat had called it quits. In the beginning of this year Anushka and Virat break-up made headlines. Virat indirectly confirmed this news by posting a single status update on Instagram and deleting it soon after. The damage was done already, paps went berserk and both Anushka and Virat were constantly quizzed about their split. Both the parties maintained a dignified stance and refused to divulge any details of the reason why they had parted ways.

Speculations were rife that the actress wanted to focus on her filmi career while Virat wanted to get hitched. Insiders revealed that that Kohli wanted Anushka to quit Bollywood and settle down. Anushka indulged herself in the preparations of Sultan and immersed herself in work completely. Virat made several appearances and we hear tried really hard to woo back his ladylove. He did succeed too, but looks like their relationship is again back on square one. There’s trouble brewing in their paradise.

This Actress Lands Into Legal Trouble With Her Director

Lisa Haydon

Lisa Haydon

Just a few days after Lisa Haydon announced her marriage with boyfriend Dino Lalvani, the sultry actress seems to be in trouble for walking out of director Abhishek Pathak‘s upcoming film Atithi, 10 days before it was scheduled to go on floors.

According to a report in DNA, Lisa was playing the female lead in the movie, for which the shooting was supposed to begin in September. The film also has Paresh Rawal, Tanvi Azmi andKartik Aryan in pivotal roles. The director allegedly plans to sue Lisa for her unprofessional behaviour.

He told a popular daily:

“We had locked Lisa for the role, exchanged contracts and even got her visa ready. The set was ready in Filmalaya studio but we got a call from her manager 10 days before the schedule that Lisa wasn’t interested in doing the film anymore. Suddenly, I hear from someone that she’s getting married which is why she can’t do our film. We had everything ready, from visas for the entire crew to locations. Now all that money is down the drain. My crew’s work permit visa is valid only for a limited period so I don’t know what to do now.”

He also said Lisa made very strange demands off late:

“One day she told me that she couldn’t lip-sync for any of the songs. She was aware that it’s a commercial film and it would have songs but we complied, agreeing to go ahead with it.”

And further said:

“These people come from abroad and don’t understand how people put in effort, sweat and blood to make a film. We shouldn’t be entertaining people who don’t understand the value of money that a producer puts into a film. The contract was handed over to her team long ago but they kept delaying signing it because she had other plans. Her agency had stated multiple times in mails that she was doing our film; she had sent us her passport details for the London schedule as well. We had already locked dates of senior actors like Pareshji and Tanviji, my London crew had been booked. We’re taking legal action against Lisa. Her talent management agency should take responsibility for this mess.”

As of now, the shoot has been postponed to October 20 and the makers are looking for another actress for the lead character.

A Lot Of People Are Shocked That Udta Punjab Is ‘Inspired’ By High Society, A British Novel

Udta Punjab

Udta Punjab

Times Of India and Scroll. in recently did a piece on the unmissable similarities between Udta Punjab and the 2002 novel High Society by Ben Elton and that has created ripples all over the Internet. Udta Punjab is one of the most significant movies of 2016, that’s why people are surprised at how ‘inspired’ the movie actually is. Here are some of the main story-lines from the book and the film which are rather similar –

1) Tommy Singh – Tommy Hanson

Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab

Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab

In the book, Tommy Hanson is a very successful rocker who is a drug addict. He attained stardom after winning a competition called Pop Hero. In the movie we have Shahid Kapoor who plays Tommy Singh, a rockstar who became a big name after winning an underground competition in London and has a history of substance abuse.

2) Mary Jane – Jessie

Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab

Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab

Jessie is a 17 year old girl who has run away to London from her home in Scotland. She is coerced into prostitution by a pimp who gets her addicted to drugs. The story follows her attempts to escape her pimp and her battle against drug addiction. Mary Jane, played by Alia Bhatt goes through the same ordeal after she runs away from her home in Bihar and comes to Punjab.

3) Commander Barry Leman – Sartaj Singh

Diljit Dosanjh in Udta Punjab

Diljit Dosanjh in Udta Punjab

arry is a high ranking police officer who becomes obsessed with exposing a politically funded drug racket after a friend of his daughter’s is horrifically sexually assaulted. Diljit Dosanjh‘sSartaj Singh is shown to be nonchalant over the rampant drug abuse in Punjab. He becomes obsessed with tracking this menace down only after he realizes his brother is an addict.

Scroll.in has broken down even more similarities between the film and the book (including the scene where Shahid and Alia meet).

highsociety

When the movie’s screenwriter Sudip Sharma was asked for a comment by the website, he denied that High Society had any part to play in the creation of Udta Punjab. Here’s what he said –

“Not really. The one big inspiration for me was Traffic (a 2000 movie based on the illegal drug trade between Mexico and the United States). I had read the book (High Society) a long time back. I don’t remember most of it.”

When contacted by The Hindu, here’s what the film’s producer Anurag Kashyap said –

“I know for a fact that my director and writer went and spent a lot of time in Punjab researching the film, and have seen the research. If they were in any way inspired by the book, which only they know, they have done a damn good job in the writing of the script. Because the film that I read and I saw, seemed very very rooted in the land.”

The Internet was disappointed –

Sushant Singh Rajput’s M.S.Dhoni – The Untold Story will earn Rs. 40 crore in its opening weekend!

M.S Dhoni 'The Untold Story

M.S Dhoni ‘The Untold Story

M.S.Dhoni – The Untold Story is finally ready for release. It is one film everyone is waiting to watch this month. He is the most loved captain of India. He has set precedents. Although a lot is known about him, he is still an enigma. How a TC decided to become the captain of Indian team is a feat in itself which deserves to be told. Captain cool is even associated with the film and has launched the trailers at many places. Dhoni was even part of the promotional videos for the film. Naturally, the film is riding on a huge wave of watching some triumph on screen and thus the buzz is strong. We spoke to our Trade expert Amul Mohan, Editor Super Cinema, to tell us what the fate of the film looks like at the box office and he had only good things to say about it.

M.S Dhoni 'The Untold Story

M.S Dhoni ‘The Untold Story

When asked about the buzz of the film, Mohan said, “It is tracking really well. It is one of the most anticipated films of recent times because he is so relevant as a cricketer right now in India. It’s a big deal for Indian movies right now. I think it will open well.” When asked for specific numbers on day one and over the weekend, he said, “If the movie is good, anything can be the weekend. If it opens on Friday say at 11 cr, Saturday might get a 10 cr with Sunday seeing an upswing with say 16-17 cr. In this scenario the movie is really good. I tend to believe that the movie will be good, because the director is a sensible guy. He will not make something awkward. So we are looking at an almost 40 cr touching weekend. Having said that, the movie is expensive. Budgets are high. But somewhere down the line I feel it is easily achievable for this film to make that much money.” When asked about the budget, he revealed, “Officially, it is under 100 crore but I think it is slightly over 100 cr.”

Mohan also asserted, “I genuinely feel that it has tremendous buzz. All will want to watch Dhoni because he is relevant. It’s not Azhar because the latter is not relevant to Indian kids right now. Older people know of him. Dhoni is still playing. He is still the captain of India in the limited over matches. It’s a completely different ball game then.”

Clearly, the trade is very hopeful about the film and if it manages to get the numbers it is expected to, September can wrap up on a good note!

Rock On 2 music review: The album for Farhan Akhtar-Shraddha Kapoor starrer is a mesmerising blend of soothing tracks and soulful lyrics!

Rock On 2

Rock On 2

The music of Rock On 2 is much awaited for various reasons. Firstly, it’s a sequel to 2008 musical hit Rock On, the songs of that film are loved by many and still can be found in the playlists of many. Secondly, it has Farhan Akhtar in the lead, he has been a successful director, producer, actor and even a singer. And, having attended his Farhan Live concert, trust me when I say it, he is a live wire on stage. And last but not the least the music director trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. They have just delivered this year’s best music in Mirzya, so expectations are sky high. The film has in total eight songs and all of them are original, crooned by either Farhan Akhtar or Shraddha Kapoor, apart from the two songs. And, as is the case in all Excel Entertainment productions, the lyrics are by Javed Akhtar.

Jaago

As mentioned by me in the song review of this track: “The lyrics of the song are motivating and is directed towards the youth. Vocals by Farhan Akhtar and support by Siddharth Mahadevan are commendable. The song has the potential to be next Sadda Haq and multiple hearing of the song might make it happen.” And turns out the song indeed grows on you, after adding it to my playlist and hearing it multiple times, the song has really grown on me. You should give this song a try.

Udja Re

The song sung by Shraddha Kapoor is on the lines of Jaago, same like Jaago it is directed towards youth and questions the way of living of today’s youth. It’s all about flying free and flying high. Shraddha Kapoor really surprised me with her singing talent here. After hearing her version of Rock On title track in the trailer, she sounded like Phoebe from Friends to me (smelly cat anyone?). But here she is really good and sounds like a professional. The lyrics once again are spot on and so is the music.

You Know What I Mean

One minute into this song and you couldn’t help but draw the parallels to Meri Laundary Ka Ek Bill from Rock On. Though this song doesn’t even gets close to that gem of a song, it tells a story like that one. I heard this song twice but couldn’t get the hang of it. May be after multiple hearings…may be. However, I did like the use of drum beats throughout the song. And Farhan Akhtar is as usual top notch.

Manzar Naya

A complete contrast from the three tracks before it, this one is a soothing track which will motivate you to go out on a solo trip or with someone just to explore the world. This song for some reason reminds me of Khaabon Ke Parindey from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and that’s a good thing. How I wish this song has a video which does full justice to it, like it did to that song. The vocals by Farhan Akhtar are fine and lyrics by Javed Akhtar are top notch. If only they could’ve do away with the voice modulation in the song, that wasn’t needed and sounded forced.

Tere Mere Dil

This song has a nice tune to it. I’ve said it earlier and I’ll state it again, Shraddha Kapoor has been sing like a pro for Rock On soundtrack and she doesn’t disappoint here as well. However, the song still leaves you unsatisfied as a listener, maybe because the lyrics doesn’t add up. The song is just bland. It just didn’t click with me. Also read: Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor AVOID getting clicked together? view HQ pics!

Woh Jahaan

Another slow track, the song starts off with Shraddha Kapoor’s vocals and she makes it her own, until Farhan Akhtar starts off with his vocals. The lyrics of this song are spot on and talks about looking for a silver lining, a better world. However the music could’ve been better, but I liked the hook tune of the song. I think this song would be towards the climax of the movie… just a hunch.

Hoi Kiw/Chalo Chalo

When the jukebox of the album was out, a friend who has worked closely with the film highly recommended this song to me. So obviously I was already hyped about this song. This song is performed by Khasi band from Shillong. And this foot tapping track lives upto those expectations. The language used in song is Khasi and has a blend of Hindi as well. The vocals are by Kit Shangpliang & Pynsuklin Syiemiong from Khasi Band and has the feel and flavor of Shillong, Meghalaya. The song has an able support in the form of Usha Uthup, she blends really well with her Hindi vocals. I wonder why we don’t see her singing tracks more often. You don’t really understand what the track really means if you are unaware of the language, but I guess the Hindi lyrics by Javed Akhtar are merely the translation of the Khasi lyrics by Kit Shangpliang…wild guess. Overall this song is very high on energy and is so far the best.

Ishq Mastana

The album changes gear yet again and delves into sufi genre with this melodious track. The song however has that feel of Déjà vu. Just ten seconds into the song and you know you have heard this song somewhere earlier or a similar song for that matter. The vocals are by Shankar Mahadevan & Digvijay Singh Pariyar and they perform it ably. The song sounds like the one which could’ve made it way in the movies of early 2000. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad song, it’s just that there is nothing new about it.

Verdict

Overall, this album is a winner all the way for Farhan Akhtar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and gang. The soundtrack has perfect blend of rock, slow and sufi tracks and strikes a chord. Having said that, it doesn’t surpass its predecessor. May be with the video songs it may live up to that. But one should surely give it a try, it’s different, it’s worthy. Recommended!

Picks

Award functions are a part and parcel of every actors life. When you perform well you are rewarded with not only box office success but also recognition from the industry through awards. Various award shows take place throughout the year, but one of the prolific event – the GQ Awards for the Men of the Year 2016 took place last night and we have to say it was quite a glitzy event. Several stars including Ranveer Singh, Kangana Ranaut, Amitabh Bachchan, Tiger Shroff, Waluscha De Sousa, Saif Ali Khan, Huma Qureshi, Sarah-Jane Dias, Kunal Kapoor, Diana Penty, Pooja Hegde, Disha Patani and a few others attended the show and they had quite some fun. In fact, Ranveer Singh was the most excited star at the event. He was not only looking handsome, he was hilarious too. He did quite a few moves, recorded a boomerang video and gave a few interviews too. But that’s not it as he bagged the Actor of the Year award…

Kangana Ranaut also looked stunning as always as she slayed on the red carpet of the award show. Kangana even bagged the Woman of the Year award. Then we had Amitabh Bachchan who was presented with a special – The Legend award. While Amitabh generally comes along with his family (including wife Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya) for award shows, he came in solo for the GQ Awards 2016. Radhika Apte, Tiger Shroff, Vicky Kaushal and Abhishek Chaubey even bagged the top honours. However, it was really surprising to see Saif Ali Khan at the awards show. Generally we don’t see him venturing out these days, obviously coz he is spending time with pregnant wifey Kareena Kapoor Khan, but Saif came in coz he was being awarded the Most Stylish award. Cool na?

“I Feel Vulnerable And Scared” – Karan Johar Opens Up About The Political Threats To Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Karan Johar

Karan Johar

Karan Johar‘s next Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is in trouble after the recent Uri attacks, following which there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Pakistani artistes. Many including Fawad Khanhave been asked to leave the country.

BJP asserted that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which stars Fawad will release only if his role is completely chopped off. In an interview with NDTV, Karan spoke about the issue.

Here are a few excerpts:

“I feel vulnerable and scared while even saying this. I completely feel the pain and anger. If my film is targeted because of this, it will make me exceptionally sad because my intent was to put out a product out of love and nothing else.”

He also said:

“I beseech everyone to look at it holistically and understand the situation, that there is a larger situation here and it has nothing to do with banning talent. I am just a filmmaker, telling a love story.”

He further spoke about feeling vulnerable:

“Today I feel, I am a vulnerable soft target. I have faced it, felt the repercussions of it in the past and I have constantly combated that.”

Lastly, he said:

“Sometimes, you just want to fold your hands and say, ‘We are a creative industry. Please leave us alone. We make movies, we spread love. There are millions in the world, in our country who are happy with the work we do, allow us that. I think we should not be those soft targets anymore. We don’t matter in the scheme of things but we can make things happier and better.”

Well said, Karan. We totally agree!

Katrina Kaif Talks About Tiger Zinda Hai And Working With Salman Khan After 4 Years

Katrina Kaif, Salman Khan

Katrina Kaif, Salman Khan

Ex-jodi Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan are reuniting for Tiger Zinda Hai, 4 years after their last movie together, Ek Tha Tiger. The film is scheduled to release next year on Christmas and is being helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Incidentally, this is Katrina’s first sequel.

Katrina is supposed to undergo intense training for her action scenes in the film. In an interview with DNA, she said:

“There’s something special coming everyone’s way for sure. I start training 2 months beforehand. If you loved the action in Ek Tha Tiger, this will blow you over for sure, I’ll just say that much.”

On working with Sallu after 4 years, she said:

“It is going to be great for Salman and me to work together in Tiger Zinda Hai. And I’m really happy we are coming back with this movie. The sequel is possibly the perfect film for both Salman and me to do together now. We were the most comfortable on the sets of Ek Tha Tiger, as Tiger and Zoya. I think it worked well for us. It’s going to be interesting to be back on sets together.”

Have the dynamics of their relationship changed over the years?

“As an actor, he reminds me to never get complacent while working. To a person who watches his films — the bigger and more successful he gets, the harder he’s working and the better he’s getting at acting.”

As for the changes in her own personal life, she said:

“I think there have been huge changes in me and my life. The world around me has changed. Change is the only constant in my life.”

Hmm!

MNS warns Karan Johar against casting Pakistani actors in his films!

Karan Johar

Karan Johar

MNS came down heavily on Karan Johar after he pledged support to Pakistan artists in Mumbai. The party has dared Johar that if any Pakistani artist works in his films, he will be given a proper answer in MNS style.

MNS leader Khopkar said, “We dare Karan. Let him take a Pakistan artist, see what we will do then.”

Another senior leader Shalini Thackeray said, “We won’t allow films to release which has Pakistan actors in it. Also this Bollywood fraternity too has to understand that this is for our country and not politics. These Pakistan people are killing so many of our Indian soldiers.”

The 48-hour deadline of MNS got over today afternoon. Speaking to a leading portal, Amey Khopkar MNS senior leader said, “Deadline is over and I can assure you that there is no Pakistan artist right now in Mumbai. Everyone left after our ultimatum. However if we find any Pakistan artist in Mumbai, we will throw them out.”

Meanwhile, the Mumbai police claims that it will give security to Pakistan nationals in Mumbai who have valid documents. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ashwini Sanap said,”We are taking this matter seriously. Proper security will be given to all the artists in Mumbai. They need not worry.”

Earlier today Karan Johar candidly spoke about MNS 48 hours ultimatum to Pakistani artists working in India, he had come out in support of his Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actor Fawad Khan and other artists.

“I understand the anger and the anguish that surround us and I empathise, my heart bleeds for the lost lives. There is nothing that can justify this terrible feeling of terror. Then you are faced in a situation such as this (asking for ban on Pak artistes). If this was truly a solution, one would take it,” the director told a news channel.

“But this is not a solution. I don’t believe it is. The larger forces have to come together and sort the situation and this cannot be banning talent or art.”

The 44-year-old filmmaker said he feels “vulnerable” while speaking about it publicly. “I feel vulnerable and scared while even saying this. I completely feel the pain and anger. If my film is targeted because of this, it will make me exceptionally sad because my intent was to put out a product out of love and nothing else.”

When asked how he will deal with these threats, Johar said, “I don’t know… I beseech everyone to look at it holistically and understand the situation, that there is a larger situation here and it has nothing to do with banning talent. Let’s look at it from a larger perspective and find the answer.”

The director said sometimes creative people feel so frustrated that they just want to “fold hands and say ‘Leave us alone’.” “I am not somebody who can find the answer. I am nobody in that scheme of things. I am just a filmmaker, telling a love story. Today I feel, I am a vulnerable soft target. I have faced it, felt the repercussions of it in the past and I have constantly combated that.”

“Sometimes, you just want to fold your hands and say, ‘We are creative industry. Please leave us alone. We make movies, we spread love. There are millions in the world, in our country who are happy with the work we do, allow us that…’ I think we should not be those soft targets anymore. We don’t matter in the scheme of things but we can make things happier and better,” he said.
