Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Sarbjit to be sent for Oscars 2017 by makers!

Officially, or independently. Movie will definitely be sent!

Omung Kumar’s biopic Sarbjit stunned everyone with stellar performances and rock-solid content in May 2016. The movie was based on life of an Indian farmer, Sarabjit who was accused of terrorism and was imprisoned in Lahore jail. Randeep Hooda played the titular character and Aishwarya Rai played Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur. Performances by the actors were very well appreciated. The movie was undoubtedly one of the best movies of 2016. And now after winning hearts, the movie is also aspiring to be in race for winning an Oscar.

Makers of the film have decided that they will be sending the critically acclaimed film to the Oscars this year in the Best Foreign Film category. Film’s producer Vashu Bhagnani said “We will send it as an entry, independently or in the race with other films. We will channelise our energy to make sure Sarbjit is in the race to become India’s entry to the Oscar this year.”

However here’s the thing–Sarbjit won’t be the only movie sent from India. There will be other movies competing with the biopic. Then finally one of them will qualify in the final nomination. And that will be decided by the Oscar Panel.

The film has already been screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 where the film was highly appreciated and loved by the audiences. Bhagnani also added “We will also enrol the film as one of the competitors in the bid for National Awards.”

Good luck to the Sarabjit team already!
