The Bachchan clan is usually known for its lavish parties on festive occasions, such as Holi and Diwali. In fact, the Holi party hosted by them is one of the most talked about events in Btown. However, this year there won’t be any celebrations in the family.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s father, Krishna Rai is in critical condition since almost a fortnight. He is admitted in the ICU in Lilavati Hospital, and both Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan are busy taking care of him. The family is naturally quite stressed about his ill-health, and therefore won’t take part in any festivities. Reportedly, there will only be a customary Holika pooja.

We wish good health and a speedy recovery to Mr. Rai!

Amitabh Bachchan, Queen Elizabeth

Amitabh Bachchan has been working for years together yet he it seems like he hasn’t tired from it. He still has as much zest and zeal as a 20 year old and it makes you wonder where he gets this energy from. Bachchan was recently invited by the Queen and Prince Philip for the UK-India Year Of Culture launch, but given his prior commitments and busy schedules, he was forced to give this coveted event a miss.

His spokesperson confirmed the news to Indian Express.

Yes, Mr Bachchan has been extended a rare invitation by Queen Elizabeth and Buckingham Palace to grace the UK-India Cultural Year reception. Unfortunately, however, he will be unable to attend due to prior commitments.”

Would’ve been so great to see him there. Hopefully, next time! 🙂

Amar Singh Reveals That Amitabh Bachchan And Jaya Bachchan Live Separately

Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan , Amar Singh

Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan , Amar Singh

Politican Amar Singh used to be a very close friend to the Bachchans, but things have been going downhill over the years. He was recently speaking to the media to clarify the allegations made against him. Apparently, he is being blamed for creating rifts and problems between the members of the Samajwadi Party.

ABP Majha quoted him as saying:

People blame me for every possible rift in the country. When the Ambanis split, they projected me as the person who created the Mahabharat between them. It wasn’t me. People have said the same about me and the Bachchans. But even before I met Amitabh Bachchan, he and Jaya Bachchan were living separately. One of them was living in Pratiksha and the other lives in his other bungalow Jalsa. There were also speculations about a problem between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Jaya. I am not responsible for that.”

Is This Superstar Replacing Amitabh Bachchan In The Next Season Of KBC?

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan

Kaun Banega Crorepati is definitely one of the best game shows on the Indian television, and the major USP of the show was being seated across Amitabh Bachchan as he asked questions in his famous baritone.

There is no denying that Mr. Bachchan was inimitable as a host and the show had a successful run with him as the host. However, buzz is that the famous Bachchan baritone is being replaced by Ranbir Kapoor in the upcoming season of the show.

Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor

A report in Bollywood Hungama states that RK Junior will host the next season of KBC. We are not sure if the reports are true as there is no official confirmation about the same. But if the reports are indeed true, this would be a darn cute and young twist to the show, which Amitabh Bachchan has successfully spearheaded so far.

Do you think Ranbir will fit in the shoes of the legend? Or you think he will add his own youthful flavour to the show and make it is his own? Tell me in the comments below!

Rishi Kapoor Opens Up On His Issue With Amitabh Bachchan For The First Time

Rishi Kapoor recently released his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Uncensored a couple of days ago. The book is turning out to be quite the revelation because for the very first time, Kapoor has spoken at length about his issue with Amitabh Bachchan. Here are some excerpts.

To go back to Amitabh, I must confess there is still a lingering issue I have with Amitabh Bachchan. A big disadvantage of working in an all-star movie in those days was that everybody only wanted to make action films, which automatically meant that the star who could carry off action with the most flair would get the meatiest part. That’s how, with the exception of Kabhi Kabhie, which was a romantic film, none of the multi-starrers I featured in had an author-backed role for me. Directors and writers unfailingly reserved their strongest, pivotal roles for Amitabh Bachchan. And it wasn’t just me. Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna faced it too.

He spoke about how other actors had to work doubly hard to match up to AB.

Amitabh is undeniably a superb actor, immensely talented and, at the time, the number one star who ruled the box-office. He was an action hero, the angry young man. So roles were written for him. Although we may have been smaller stars, we were not lesser actors. Yet, the rest of us had to constantly measure up to him. We had to work hard, really exert ourselves to match up. In my time, the musical/romantic hero had no place. Amitabh was an action hero in an era of action films. As such, writers gave him the lion’s share and he had the authorbacked roles in almost all his films. This gave him an advantage over the rest of us who had to make our presence felt with whatever we got.”

This is where the problem arises.

But this is something that Amitabh has never ever admitted to, in any interview or book. He has never given due credit to the actors who have worked with him. He has always credited his writers and directors, Salim-Javed, Manmohan Desai, Prakash Mehra, Yash Chopra and Ramesh Sippy. But it is also true that his co-stars had an undeniable role in his success. Shashi Kapoor in Deewaar (1975), Rishi Kapoor in Amar Akbar Anthony and Coolie or Vinod Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha and Dharmendra all contributed to the success of his films where they shared credit with him, even if in secondary roles. This is something no one has realized or acknowledged. But it was the way things were and we accepted it gracefully.”

Interesting. We wonder what Amitabh Bachchan has to say about this.

Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Kaalia’ recently completed 35 years. To express this joyous moment, Big B took to Twitter to share few pictures from the movie.

However, Big B’s director friend, Ram Gopal Varma seems to have crossed the line of decency as he used abusive language while sharing his opinion about the same. While trying to praise Amitabh Bachchan’s performance, the director also challenged the new generation actors to match up to Big B’s level of acting. Here’s what RGV tweeted:

While we appreciate that Ram Gopal Varma praised Amitabh Bachchan’s acting in ‘Kaalia’, we wonder how would Big B and other actors react to his abusive tweet!

This Actress Didn’t Know Who Amitabh Bachchan Was Till She Worked With Him!

Andrea Tariang

Andrea Tariang

You don’t have to be a Bollywood buff to know (and love) Amitabh Bachchan. The man needs no introduction. However, turns out Big B’s PINK co-actor Andrea Tariang didn’t know who the actor was for the longest time! The Shillong based girl is originally a musician, and debuted in Bollywood with PINK. She plays one of the three women who face assault charges, after being molested by some men. The other two women are played by Taapsee Pannu and Kriti Kulhari.

Andrea said in an interview:

I said yes thinking if I do the film I will get some pocket money. I didn’t know who Amitabh Bachchan was, I had heard of his name. I don’t understand Hindi so I haven’t watched his films and then when I got to know that I will be working with THE Amitabh I started watching some of his films and my dad said he is a huge icon in Bollywood industry.”

We wonder how Big B reacted to this!

Pink movie review: Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom drama is the STRONGEST women-centric film of the year!

Pink is not just any regular women-centric film that speaks about women’s rights. There’s more to it than just that. It’s hard-hitting and realistic. Shoojit Sircar and Amitabh Bachchan’s chemistry gets stronger and even better after Piku. There have been so many movies based on rape, molestation and thousand other things that women have to deal with in this country; Angry Indian Goddesses, Mardaani, Damini, Dor, Lajja and so on. Pink adds to these but with a special message that hasn’t been spoken about yet, a message that every woman will relate to very strongly. Pink is the answer to all your WHYs about an ‘appropriate’ lifestyle for women. No woman or girl deserves to be molested, raped or gawked at irrespective of what she wears or how she speaks.

Before I start talking about how effing brilliant the movie was, I want to talk to about the general concerns we Indians have about the codes of conduct of a man and woman in the society. A lot of feminists and social activists have protested and raised the issue about how a woman is judged by her lifestyle and her clothes. Parents force their daughters to cover themselves up and forbid them to befriend anyone of the opposite sex. Most of them don’t do it because they aren’t as liberal as the current or the future generation. They do it to protect their daughters from the judgmental eyes of the society, to protect their daughter’s dignity and most importantly, from other men. Do we hate that our parents can’t sleep till we reach home? We despise it!

An independent woman is perceived to be open to multiple sexual relationships. The‘akeli ladki khuli tijori ki tarah hoti hai’ mentality still prevails no matter how much we progress and how educated we are. While there is a part of society that strongly supports initiatives like ‘Beti Bachao’ and myriad others, there is a section of the society suppressing it with rules and regulations for women.

Whenever there is molestation or a rape case filed, the girl’s character and personality is questioned before anything else. A girl’s past relationships, sexual encounters, habits like drinking and smoking, a promiscuous way of dressing is what everyone blames. Yes all of us are outraged by this perception. Our blood boils when a girl’s fate or character is based on how long she stays out of the house. If you stay out till the wee hours, you’re bound to be involved in things that you can’t even speak about in public.

A woman who judges or taunts about another woman’s character based on her clothes and habits is as bad as ten men molesting or raping a girl. Pink speaks very strongly of the power of the word NO. When a woman says no, it doesn’t mean anything else. It just means no. And when a woman says no, nobody has the right to force her, not even her own husband and this is very strongly portrayed in the movie by Amitabh Bachchan. This is probably one of the very few films that addresses the consent of a woman rather than just focusing on the injustice part of it.

What’s it about

The movie might remind you a little of Sunny Deol, Rishi Kapoor and Meenakshi Seshadri’s Damini, especially the courtroom scenes but Pink addresses a rather larger issue which is consent. Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Deepak Sehgal who used to be a famous lawyer and quit his practice after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He lives under the shadow of his ailing wife who is in the ICU. He, himself, has several health problems and constantly wears a mask to breathe properly (which reminds you of Darth Vader a little bit).

Taapsee Pannu (Meenal Arora), Andrea Tariang (Andrea) and Kirti Kulhari (Falak Ali) are three flatmates who become best friends. They party together, laugh together and spend time with each other while focusing on their individual careers. Life changes for them after they get involved in a fight with Rajvir (Angad Bedi) and friends. Naturally, the girls are scared since the guys have been blackmailing them ever since they had the fight.

Rajvir is the son of an MLA and obviously has his ways with the law. What follows later is a courtroom drama with several accusations and ruthless comments on the girls and their lifestyle. Amitabh Bachchan decides to represent the girls in court.

What’s hot

The courtroom scenes are cut to cut without any unnecessary scenes about interrogations and finding the proofs, or any songs for that matter. There is not one soul in the movie that has disappointed the audience with their acting skills. Piyush Mishra, who plays the role of the prosecution lawyer, has done exceptionally well. His performance will make you hate him so much that you’ll whistle and clap every time Big B has brilliant comeback to his accusations. And we meant that as a compliment to him. Even the girls have delivered a terrific performance.

Not to forget, the dialogues are to the point and witty. The second half of the movie is more gripping and Big B steals the show in the second half. The last scene in the movie is bound to give you the chills. This is Bengali film director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Bollywood debut and is produced by Shoojit Sircar. All in all, this is the Movie of the Year for me. I urge you to watch it with your family and friends.
